Mexican Feast in Memphis
We love downtown Memphis almost as much as we love Mexican food and that's mucho. On South Main there's an amazing tortas & tacos restaurant called Maciel's. Why didn't we try this place sooner is the only complaint we could make after having lunch there the day before Thanksgiving.
Mouthwatering Experience for all Senses
As soon as you walk in you're hit in the tastebuds with the mouthwatering smells coming from the kitchen, which is open, in the center of the restaurant. We grabbed some menus to check it out and had a really hard time choosing our lunch. We wanted all of the tacos and foods. After putting our heads together, my sister Nikki and I decided on the fried tacos, we'd get two different kinds and then trade a taco, win-win.
Mexican Decor
After placing the order and taking our table number, we could get back to taking this charming Mexican joint in. Aside from how good it smells, the next thing we noticed was the black and white checkered floor and the chalk drawing art on the walls.
The best chalk drawing being the cow diagram (as pictured first) showing where your tasty tacos come from. We noticed a colorful doorway leading upstairs? Yes, there's a whole other level to this hidden gem of a restaurant. It's so colorful and festive, reminding us of the markets in San Antonio and our Grandma's former restaurant, Lupe & Bea's. Not to mention the far wall being all windows giving us a lovely lunchtime view of S. Main.
Mexican Charm
While we waited on our lunch we explored the brightly colored wall hanging art and daydreamed about having a family gathering here. Bringing our loved ones here would feel so right, as they would see the charm we saw in this place and why we loved it even before we tasted some tacos. We tried to capture some pictures that would show just how truly charming this modern and modest Mexican restaurant is.
Believe it or not, my sister and the co-owner of ShopMucho, is shy. But, after some coaxing she let me photograph her in the Bewitching Boho Blusa. I mean, what setting could be better? But then our food came and we lost all interest in everything else.
Tasting Mexican Tacos
In case you were wondering about the tacos we traded, Nikki got the fried tacos Pastor and I had to try the fried tacos in Papa. Each plate came with three tacos rice and beans.
Nikki had to stop me from digging in cause we had to get a shot of the food. It was tasty as can be. We also split the queso fundido con chorizo because, cheese dip is life. Needless to say, we had an amazing lunch. The food was hot, fresh, and tasted fantastic and authentic. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs so we got some to go boxes for leftovers. We can't wait to go back and try something different, possibly a torta, next visit. Check out their menu, they even have Mexican cola (and beer). And, they deliver!
