Randall and I are always down to try new Mexican restaurants around town! It's something I live for!! Agavos Cocina & Tequila opened in spring, so it's still pretty new. We were so excited to finally get a chance to go check it out and it did not disappoint.
I got their top-shelf margarita and Randall got a Dos Equis with a shot of tequila on the side. I have to say that the Margarita was very good. It was strong but that's because I ordered top-shelf. I'm usually a bit wary of margaritas because I do not want it to have that sweet & sour mixture. Theirs was not overdone and if I'm not mistaken it was made fresh. Or at least tasted that way.
For dinner, Randall and I like to order entrees that we both want to try and then share them. I ordered the Agavos tacos. I chose 3, Asada, El Pastor, and Tingo de Pollo. They were all very yummy. The El Pastor and Tingo de Pollo had so much flavor. So if you are unfamiliar with what is in each taco the Asada taco has sliced steak, El Pastor is pork and pineapples, and the Tindo de Pollo is shredded chicken in a delicious tomato sauce with chipotle chiles. Yum. I got to choose 2 topping so I picked shredded cheese and jalapenos.
Randall ordered the Tamales Al Horno (baked tamales) with a stuffed jalapeno on the side and refried beans, of course, for me :) His was also very tasty and fresh.
We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't very busy. We liked the atmosphere and the overall look of the space. It's a big restaurant with patio seating. If we go back I would love to try their Agavoburger which sounds delish.
But, before we do we need to try Tennessee Taco Company, Margaritas Mexican Grill, 901 Tacos, & the return of Maciel's. I reviewed Maciel's in a previous blog post. They had a part of ceiling cave in during restaurant hours and have been closed for repairs. They're due to open back up next week!
I also can't forget about my longtime favorite El Mexcal. They have been around for as long as I can remember since I moved to Memphis.
I plan to write up on all of the restaurants I mentioned! It's fun to go try something new and report back. I hope y'all enjoy it too!
Love. Mucho Mucho.
